Clearing these vents will prevent fires from growing inside your house, as well as make sure that no mold starts growing in your vents, causing you health problems. Any vent that leads outside (bathroom, range, or dryer vent) should be cleaned out and should be unobstructed
By opening your windows, you also open your home up to unwelcome guests like ants or flies. Spring is a good time of year to check or repair screens on your doors and windows so that you can feel comfortable leaving them open.
Cleaning windows is a job that requires care, but it’s also an opportunity to remove grime, dust, and dirt. If you don’t have time to clean them on your own, I have a list of vendors who can help you with that.
Make sure shingles are intact. Look for signs of leaks or wood damage on the outside and in your attic. If you find problems, hire a roofing expert or replace damaged shingles. It is also a good idea to have your roof serviced if it looks like it needs some TLC.
Paint and siding create a barrier for your home. Crakes and peeling paint can cause damage in the springtime rain. Protect your home from water damage by inspecting your siding and painting any damaged areas.
Press the test button, if it doesn’t sound replace the battery. Check all the alarms individually, if one is working it doesn’t mean all of them are working. Smoke detectors save lives, it’s as simple as that. Although most people think smoke detectors go off automatically when there is smoke, they don’t. They sound when there is heat detected by their built-in sensor. Newer alarm models have added carbon monoxide detection capabilities.
This allows new plants to grow in their space and brightens your yard. Dead plants are a fire hazard and a place for insects to live. Now is a good time to give all of your green friends a visit. Give the plants a little water and trim back any dead foliage. Also, keep an eye out for bugs – if you see some, try spraying with insect repellent! Check-in on Plants.
Poor operating gutters can cause a pool around the foundation or poor drainage on your roof. They should bring rainwater away from the foundation and off the roof. Make sure to clean them out as well. The gutter system is designed to guide water away from your home. Rainwater left on your roof can cause damage. Clean out rain gutters, downspouts, roof vents, and splash blocks of debris or dirt before spring rains arrive.
Check exterior and interior for signs of a pest infestation. Ruined woods, dead insects, or clusters of eggs is an indication of a pest problem. Spraying for pests can eliminate damage to your home. I have a few trusted pest companies, one even advertises safe products.
Clean your Air Conditioner’s coils and drain pans and always remember to replace the filters. Get a tune-up by a professional. It will prolong its life, save you money on repairs, and increase efficiency all summer long! Not sure if it’s time? Here are three easy ways to tell.
